Put On Your Boots....

Little Boots had made her entire debut album, 'Hands', previewable on her Myspace.

Victoria Hesketh's first single since the ridiculous hype began, 'New In Town', limped into the UK charts at no. 13 last night so she will no doubt be hoping that the album fares a little better. I suspect it will.

Of the new tracks, only 'Symmetry', featuring The Human League's Phil Oakey, comes close to being as good as 'Meddle' or 'Stuck on Repeat'. However, the tracks are solid enough to suggest that Hesketh is not the flukey two-hit wonder that some are writing her off as.

The music is unashamedly bubblegum and Hesketh's voice isn't especially impressive but the quality of the songwriting and production holds it together. You can forgive her some lyrical clangers here and there when the the hooks and melodies are as good as they are.

This year has seen the emergence of several female fronted pop outfits tipped for success. Little Boots has laid down the gauntlet with 'Hands'. It remains to be seen whether imminent releases from La Roux and Florence and the Machine can raise the bar.
