My favourite night of all of last year's Dublin Fringe was Cathy Davey's 'Songs That Scare Children (But In A Very Beautiful Way)' .The one-off gig in the Spiegeltent featured Cathy collaborating with a number of Irish singers to perform deliciously dark ditties in a wonderful vaudeville style. Among those joining Cathy for a croon were Conor O' Brien from Villagers, Lisa Hannigan, Carla Gallagher and a young gentleman called David Turpin.
Turpin's eerie rendition of 'Trust in Me' from The Jungle Book was one of many highlights from the night but, to be honest, I kind of forgot about him afterwards. That is until superstar-in-development Karen Howley kindly drew my attention to a new track on his Myspace.
It's called 'The Bone Dance' and it sounds kind of like how I imagine an Irish Pet Shop Boys crossed with Majiker would sound. Check it out here.
The track is from his forthcoming album 'Haunted', due in October. Presumably the 31st.
