When B Met G...

The video has surfaced for the first of two collaborations between arguably the two biggest female popstars on the planet: Beyoncé and Lady Gaga. 'Videophone' is a Beyoncé track that has been re-swizzed to feature a guest vocal from Gaga.

Honestly, I don't think much of the song but the ladies are looking decidedly foxy in the video, with Ms Knowles channeling Betty Paige and Gaga looking disconcertingly normal, giving her outlandish ensembles a rest and allowing her dance moves take centre-stage:



It's a pretty safe bet to say Team Beyoncé were calling the shots on this one. Personally, I'm more interested to see what visual accompaniment the Haus of Gaga come up with for the confusingly similarly-titled 'Telephone', which features Beyoncé in a guest-spot originally intend for Britney.

If it's anything approaching the extravagance of the 'Bad Romance' video, it'll be a popgasm for the annals.

I stand by my original assertion that The xx remix of this tune is one of the best songs I've heard all year (can you still call it a 'remix' if it barely features any of the original song?) Here it is again in case you missed it:

Single, Heartless and Wild...

By this stage, I suspect even my grandad has seen the clip of rapper Kanye West storming the stage at the VMA's to declare Beyonce the rightful owner of country star Taylor Swift's award for 'Best Female Video'. I was only vaguely familiar with Swift's work but I think the footage of her standing forlorn on the stage after Kanye says his piece, looking at her award and knowing her big moment had been forever tainted, is slightly heartbreaking.

The reaction to the episode has been nothing short of hysterical, with President Obama being the latest to wade in on the subject. In fairness to Kanye, Beyonce's video was superior and he was somewhat vindicated when she took home the gong for 'Best Overall Video'. Of course, this does not excuse the fact that he is an egotistical, self-righteous eejit but, lighten up y'all. It's just a moon man.

Personally, I hope Taylor, Beyonce and Kanye can come to some sort of resolution after all the hullabaloo and maybe they could even collaborate musically to show that there's no hard feelings? In the meantime, we can make do with this lovely mash-up featuring their collective talents:

I Don't Think You're Ready For This Kelly...

In keeping with the recent theme of copycats, here's another suspiciously similar pair for your consideration...

Kelly Clarkson's latest single, 'Already Gone', is causing a mild furore at the moment following the singer's own admission that it bears more than a passing similarity to Beyoncé's 'Halo'.

Pretty glaring similarities, right?

Well, as I say, La Clarkson herself has acknowledged this and is pointing the finger of blame at Ryan Tedder, who penned both tracks. She insists she only heard 'Halo' after the release of her album and phoned Tedder to ask him why he had basically flogged two variations of the same track.

She's apparently less than delighted that her label have chosen to release it as a single. I reckon Ryan Tedder should watch his bank. A Kelly Clarkson scorned is not a pretty sight.

Flo and the Mo Can See Your Halo

I'm slightly blown away by this cover of Beyonce's 'Halo' by Florence and the Machine, once again courtesy of BBC Radio's Live Lounge. The version is pretty faithful to Ms. Knowles' original but, even so, the combination of lush instrumentation and Florence's soaring vocal makes for something quite special.

Incidentally, I met a girl in a communion dress on Saturday night that was actually called Beyoncé. Unfortunate.
