Once upon a time, receiving blog-mail used to make me embarrassingly excited.
Unfortunately, these days, most of the messages I'm sent are generic send-outs from music PR folk or mass-mails by DJs who have obviously never read my blog but would have me believe that they're sat at their computer all day, refreshing every 5 seconds, hoping for new posts.
Thankfully, every now and again, sifting through the spam pays off when you stumble upon a worthwhile recommendation. Take London singer Antics, for example.
With shades of some of Yeasayer's recent output, the Battersea boy's disco-tinged electropop is very much 'my bag' and, even if the production is a little rough around the edges, there's more than enough invention and variety in the few tracks on his Myspace to warrant earmarking.
His track 'Headspace' is especially fresh and available for free download here:

Glinting Like Cats' Eyes
I've taken a real, er, shine to these 'Celestial Moggies', created by Boya Latumahina, possibly because the above cat-like constellation bears a striking resemblance to my first pet, Tiger.
Yo, where's the 'saddo disclaimer' button on this thing?

The Bittersweet Between My Teeth
I'm not dead. Just critically maimed. Recovery should take a couple more weeks. In the meantime, posts will be few and far between. Cope.
At the moment, I am listening a lot to The Naked And Famous, whose track 'Young Blood' has probably been the definitive summer anthem within the blogosphere this year.
Occupying a point on the musical spectrum somewhere between M83 and Passion Pit, the New Zealand band craft hazy electropop that's tailor-made to soundtrack that most fabled experience of youth, The Best Summer Ever™.
Buoyed by youthful exuberance, their music is also imbued with a certain wistfulness - a kind of resignation that things will never be this good again.
I dig.
